Abstract
Vocabulary is a crucial element in language learning. According to Schmitt (2000), vocabulary learning involves three main processes: discovering word meanings, consolidating them, and using them in communication. This study aims to identify the strategies used by university students to learn English vocabulary effectively. The research involved 20 students from the 2023 batch of the English Education Study Program. The results show that most students discover word meanings by using context and online dictionaries. To consolidate vocabulary, they often construct sentences, repeat words aloud, and take notes. In applying vocabulary, speaking, and writing are the most frequently used strategies. These findings suggest that students rely on practical, independent, and contextual learning methods. Teachers are advised to incorporate these strategies into instruction. Future research should involve more participants and a qualitative tool.
