This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the increasing number of mass media and the intense competition in news delivery. Newspaper headlines are very important as they attract readers' attention and summarize the essence of the news briefly. In this context, this study analyzes the transitivity processes in the headlines related to the Russia-Ukraine war from three international newspapers: The New York Times, China Daily, and The Jakarta Post. The research problems are (1) What transitivity processes are found in the headlines of The New York Times, China Daily, and The Jakarta Post? (2) What is the composition of transitivity processes used in the headlines of these three newspapers? The objectives of this study are (1) To identify the elements of transitivity in the headlines of The New York Times, China Daily, and The Jakarta Post. (2) To explore the similarities and differences in the elements of transitivity found in the headlines of these three newspapers. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with discourse analysis. Data is sourced from headlines related to the Russia-Ukraine war taken from The New York Times, China Daily, and The Jakarta Post from February 24 to April 30, 2022. Data analysis is conducted using Halliday's (2004) transitivity approach in Systemic Functional Grammar, which includes processes, participants, and circumstances. The results indicate that (1) Material processes dominate the use of transitivity in the headlines, appearing 28 times in The New York Times, 1 time in China Daily, and 1 time in The Jakarta Post. (2) Behavioral processes appear 19 times in The New York Times and 2 times in China Daily. (3) Relational processes are found 9 times in The New York Times and 2 times in The Jakarta Post. (4) Verbal processes appear 6 times in The New York Times. (5) Existential processes appear 1 time in The New York Times. No mental processes were found in the analyzed headlines.
