Abstract

This study examines the translation types of figures of speech in the novel Laskar Pelangi and its English translation (The Rainbow Troops). The aim of this research is to identify the figures of speech based on Perrine’s (2018) exemplification and to analyze the translation types based on House’s (2015) overt and covert translation theory. The findings showed 606 occurrences of figures of speech, with overstatement being the most dominant type. In terms of translation type, covert translation was predominant, accounting for 417 out of 536 data. This study contributes to the understanding of how figurative language is translated in literary works using House's overt and covert translation framework
